Well, folks. The holidays have come and gone, the ornaments are packed up, and the stockings are put away. If you’re anything like us, you kept the Christmas decorations up for a little bit longer this season. But now it’s time to transition your home for the new year!

REFRESHING THE LIVING ROOM AFTER THE HOLIDAYS

The holidays are over and you’ve finally gotten all the Christmas decor put away; now what? Do you feel like you have 10 times more space than you did just a few days before? Heck yes! And that’s because you do! Christmas decor (at least in our house) really just fills up the space and is all over. When you take it down it’s literally like a breath of fresh air. I’m here to help y’all figure out what you can do after the holidays for some simple decor that allows you to change just ONE thing in this decor setup throughout spring and summer using just four other main items.

Now these four main items are neutral items that will be your “base items” in this decor setup. If you’ve been around here awhile you know I’m a lover of neutral colors, but I always find ways to add in the seasonal color. My go-to store is Kirkland’s for all things home decor. They truly have such a variety of items and always keep up with the latest styles. Best of all, their prices are great!

Okay now to start it out, the space I’m refreshing is the living room/mantel space. The living room had the most Christmas decor in it, but this year I actually had a lot of winter type decor to help for an easier after the holidays transition. However, the view I’m about to show you had lots of Christmas decor and colors so it was in need for a change up.

First things first, just put away all of the Christmas like items. This I suggest keeping out: cedar picks, antlers, white flowers, white pillows/throws, and deer. Yes deer. They seem like they are so Christmas and Christmas only, but I have always loved keeping out the deer decor I have into January and a little bit of February because they still remind me of winter time. Now if you don’t have any deer or antlers, don’t worry about it! You won’t find them out and about right now, but when it comes to next Christmas, think about getting some neutral deer that could last past the holidays.

Once you have everything cleared and ready to go, start with these four basics:

Tray: I used a Woven Hyacinth Tray since we have a round coffee table and to add some texture, but here is a round one as well if you have a square or rectangle coffee table.
Vase: Ceramic vases are super in right now, and they are great for adding an additional texture. This Ivory Vase I chose is a perfect neutral for any style.
Candle Lantern: I used a clear lantern with a pillar candle for this refresh, but you could also use a wooden candle holder also
Mirror: Play off what you have in the room. I went for a antique gold mirror to highlight more of the the gold accents, but if you have black, go with a black mirror instead like this one. The one I chose is no longer online, but here is another gorgeous one!

These items complement each other so well, and they do something that is very important for that “after the holiday” look (in my opinion): TEXTURE!! It’s seriously so important to make a cohesive look. Texture allows you to do a more simplistic approach to home decor without having to have all the clutter. I paired this setup with with our glass container that holds our coasters, a wood bead garland, and some cedar picks with antlers.

On the mantel you can see I added the gold vintage mirror here. Since it’s a little smaller, I layered it with the canvas I actually created myself and a horse picture I’ve had for years. I’m obsessed with the horse photo Kirkland’s has here or here, and it would pair so well in this set up too! I then added some pillar candles I had around the house and my antler picks for some additional texture.

Now, if you don’t have all these additional items that’s totally okay! you can start small by refreshing the coffee table items. But what’s the one thing that you can change out to keep up with the seasons that I mentioned above? The florals!! Florals are such a simple and cost effective thing to change up a whole space. After I’m done with the wintery florals/picks, I’ll go ahead and swap this out for some eucalyptus for the spring time.

Refreshing spaces in our home is always one of my favorite things to do because it lets my creative soul come out and do work! The winter refresh is definitely a fun one because it’s like a clean slate. For an easy after the holidays look, start with simple and remember texture. And let those creative juices flow!!
